Over 62,000 .vn domain names granted

HA NOI — The number of websites with the .vn domain name is rapidly increasing, according to the Viet Nam National Internet Centre (VNNIC) under the Ministry of Information and Communications.

By the end of March 2008, the VNNIC had granted more than 62,000 .vn domain names, markedly higher than the 40,000 sites registering with international domain names during the same period.

Domain names with Viet Nam’s national code have become more attractive because second-grade .vn domain names are shorter and more convenient for Vietnamese enterprises.

In addition, .vn domain names are safer and protected under Vietnamese IT Law, according to the centre.

Viettel gets new network prefix code

HA NOI — Viettel Mobile said it will introduce a new prefix code, 0169, bringing the number of prefixes used by the military-run mobile carrier to four.

The country’s largest mobile network in terms of the number of subscribers, Viettel’s current prefixes are 098, 097, 0168 and now 0169.

Subscribers who use the new network code will have phone numbers of 11 digits (0169 xxxx.xxx). Viettel will deliver around 8 million new phone numbers to the market. Current subscribers will retain their numbers.

Viettel said it currently attracts 60,000 to 70,000 new subscribers per day, the highest number among mobile networks in Viet Nam.

Fujitsu appoints local distributor

HCM CITY — Fujitsu International has appointed DigiWorld the distributor of the Japanese computer maker’s business-class laptops in Viet Nam.

Fujitsu said it had selected DigiWorld because the Vietnamese company represented over 800 dealers and service partners nationwide and had over 10 years’ experience in trading IT products.

According to Fujitsu, DigiWorld will initially distribute its Lifebook P series, Lifebook S series, LifeBook U – Ultra mobile tablet PC and LifeBook T – Tablet PC.

Gapit introduces mobile marketing solution

HA NOI –— Gapit has introduced Gapit Keywordz, a new online solution which will help users reach target customers through interactive marketing campaigns via nationwide mobile phone SMS (short message service).

Gapit said the solution will help businesses to promote products, increase brand awareness, and execute market and consumer behaviour research via SMS.

The solution will also feautre online managment and operation of marketing campaigns, continuous updating of customer profile databases and online reporting systems for analysis. — VNS
